Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid are deeply saddened and shocked by the news of the homicide of Sophie Cavanagh, a Bromley woman, daughter and mum. Our thoughts are with her family at such a tragic time, and we send our condolences to every person affected by her loss.

Unfortunately, as the main provider of domestic abuse provider in our local community for more than 40 years, we know that this is not an isolated case. In England, 2 women are killed every week by their partner or former partner.

At BCWA, we support hundreds of women (and their children) every year who are subject to physical, sexual, emotional, verbal and financial abuse at the hands of their partners, ex-partners and family members. This epidemic has a name: domestic abuse.

We want you to know that you’re not alone and it’s not your fault. If you ever feel trapped in a relationship and you want to speak to someone, we are here to help, our confidential and non-judgmental Helpline is open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4.30 pm on 0208 3139303.

Out of hours, you can ring the National Domestic Violence Helpline on 0808 2000 247.
