Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to get outside and get some sunshine.

Did you know you can contribute 20 times more to our cause as a fundraiser than as a single donor? Luckily, longer days and warmer weather present a lot of opportunities for fundraising, allowing you to get together with your friends and family whilst raising money and awareness of Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid.

Check out our list of seven summer fundraising ideas to get you started!

Enter a sporting event

Run, paddle, pedal or swim your way to fundraising fitness. There are so many local events to participate in including the Kenley Summer 10K, Crystal Palace Summer Half Marathon and the London Dock2Dock swim

If nothing out there tickles your fancy, why not organise your own sporting event! You could host a football tournament or even a volleyball match – any activity where you push yourself for charity is bound to drum up support.

Summer screenings in the garden

Fancy something a bit more relaxing? There’s nothing better than watching your favourite films under the stars. Hire or borrow a projector from work or friends (or check your local Library of Things) and host a big-screen experience. Ask your friends and family to donate the cost of a cinema ticket (averaging at £8) to help empower woman and children fleeing domestic abuse.

If you need a hand picking the movie, take a look at this list of 100 feminist films

Embrace the Wimbledon buzz

For two weeks in July, everyone’s talking tennis – it’s synonymous with the British summer. Wimbledon fortnight is the perfect opportunity to run a sweepstake. Simply put the name of each player (or the favourites, at least) into a hat and get everyone in your office or friendship group to pick out a name. Ask them to donate £5 to take part and give your winner a prize (perhaps some strawberries and cream?).

Classic charity car wash

A good old-fashioned car wash is a classic summer fundraising idea. Advertise your event ahead of time on social media or with flyers to let your neighborhood know what’s happening and when. Request a suggested donation dependent on the service you’re offering and have a QR code going to your JustGiving page to hand for those who don’t carry cash. Once the hard work is over, you could even finish off the day with a water fight!

Barbecue extravaganza

BBQ fundraisers are a relatively simple way to connect with your community or catch up with old friends. To turn an ordinary BBQ into a fundraising extravaganza, you can change an entry fee for an all you can eat BBQ event, or charge a small entry fee for hungry visitors to then purchase food and drinks.

If you think you’re the best BBQ chef in town, why not organise a ‘Come Dine with Me’ style competition and impress your friends and family with your culinary skills in exchange for a donation to take part.

Try Le Tour de France your way

The fittest athletes in the world hit the road for the Tour de France in July – and it’s no coincidence that the UK gets summer cycling fever too. If you’re ready to raise more than just your heartbeat, plan a bike ride for charity with your friends and family sponsoring you for every mile. If you don’t own a bicycle, try a 24-hour cycle challenge on your gym’s exercise bike instead.

Showcase local talent

It’s likely your local community has its fair share of budding musicians. Showcasing that talent can be a rewarding way to raise money while celebrating up and coming artists. Whether you sell tickets to a summer concert, organise an X-Factor style contest or host a karaoke evening, you can put your voice to good use. Whilst there’s a fair amount of effort involved in planning, music events are often the most feel-good fundraisers of all!
