From International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25/11) to Human Rights Day (10/12) runs an annual international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls (VAWG). The 16 Days of Action campaign started in 1991 and it has now spread across 164 countries and over 3,700 organisations take part in raising awareness and promoting positive change to end violence against Women and Girls.
The theme this year focuses on ending gender-based violence in the world of work. Companies can do more to support their employees who are experiencing domestic violence, train those who witness it and protects staff as a whole. The organisations taking part in the 16 days of action campaign aim to bring attention to these issues and make changes that will have an impact. Bromley and Croydon Women’s Aid is no exception.
Throughout the 16 days of action campaign we will be looking at economic abuse, safe enquiries, hidden signs of domestic abuse, best practice in the workplace, will be listening to survivors’ stories and will explain how to support survivors and how to seek support if you’re one.
The 16 days of Action strives to highlight the connection between human rights and violence against women and girls; at BCWA, we believe that together we can create real change in our local community. Keep an eye on our social media account for the next couple of weeks, and get involved, spread the word to say #HearMeToo!
