Position title: IRIS Croydon Clinical Lead (CL)

Responsible to: Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid (BCWA)

Hours: 108 (will be required to work flexibly)

Post end date: 31st March 2025

Location: Croydon (travel will be required within the role)

Contract: Locum

Salary: £83 hourly rate

This is a great opportunity to make a difference for Croydon patients who experience domestic violence and abuse.  Bromley & Croydon WA (BCWA) are looking for a Croydon based, practising clinician – a GP, Nurse, Social Prescriber, Physician Associate or Pharmacist – with an interest in domestic violence and abuse (DVA) to become a Clinical Lead (CL) for the IRIS Programme in Croydon.  IRIS is an evidence-based domestic abuse training and referral programme developed specifically for general practice, currently being delivered across 30+ areas of England, Wales & Northern Ireland. For more information on the IRIS programme please visit: www.irisi.org.  This is a shared role, working with an experienced clinical lead who is already in post.

Bromley & Croydon WA (BCWA) are looking for part time practicing clinicians with extensive knowledge of the local needs and with links to Croydon primary health care staff. The IRIS Clinical Lead role involves working closely with a specialist in domestic violence and abuse to promote the IRIS programme across the London Borough of Croydon, recruit practices, deliver in-house training at the practices, and act as a source of advice, guidance and support for clinical colleagues on the subject of DVA. The IRIS Clinical Lead will have an understanding of the gendered nature of violence and abuse, and of the impact of multiple, intersecting oppressions (e.g. sexism, racism, homophobia, ableism, etc) and the consequent barriers for some survivors of domestic abuse to accessing health and other services.

The role requires approximately 108 hours of time combined, at an hourly rate of £83. We are looking for people with flexibility in their time to be available to receive the IRIS training for trainers, attend local steering group meetings and promote and engage practices, especially early on in the rolling out of the programme. A large proportion of time will then be spent delivering the IRIS clinical training to local general practice teams. Funding has been secured until end of March 2025 and this is a fixed envelope of funding for the role.

The vacancy is for 1 part time clinician who will share the role with an existing clinical lead. Availability must be on alternate days to each other so we can offer many options to general practices for training days.

The Croydon clinical lead posts will be working with all GP Practices (currently around 46) across that locality.

For more information, please get in touch with BCWA via hr@bcwa.org.uk

Applicants will be required to submit an Expression of Interest by the 28th April 2024 via hr@bcwa.org.uk

Interviews will be held week commencing 6th May 2024.

The successful candidate will be required to attend the three day online IRIS Train the Trainers course: June 18th- 20th (face-to-face training, location tbc).
